Marsa C.C had a week of cricket which they would like to forget and a weekend to remember.
During the week Edinburgh University from Scotland played Marsa C.C three times on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
On Tuesday Edinburgh won the toss and elected to bat. The match winning performance came from Henry Clive who made 128 runs including 12 fours and six sixes. He was sadly dropped three times by the Marsa fielders who could have turned the game around. B.Duerden (31 runs) and T.Clarke (21 runs) were the other main contributors.
Edinburgh totalled 247 runs. Walter Glynn and Kevin Krishna were the pick of the Marsa bowlers taking two wickets each. Marsa’s reply was short by 91 runs. Jonathan Tully (44 runs) and Chris Naudi (45 runs) batted well for Marsa. A.Reimod and J.Innes took two wickets each for the tourists.
On Wednesday, Edinburgh won the toss and elected to bat again. They were restricted to 192 runs from the allotted overs. B.Duerden (51 runs), A.Reimod (32 runs) and J.Innes (30 runs) were the main scorers. Kevin Krishna kept his fine bowling and captured a further two wickets. Marsa fell short by 37 runs with John Grima top scoring with 39 runs. T.Clarke took two wickets for the visitors. The visitors went two up in the series.
On Thursday, Edinburgh batted first again and totalled their highest score for the series, 257 runs. D.Rush, 50 runs and B.Duerden 46 runs were the main scorers.
Marsa’s bowlers aided the tourist score by bowling 45 wides which made the difference in the end result. Mike Smith bowled well taking four wickets for Marsa.
Marsa were short by 87 runs with T.Clarke taking five wickets. Edinburgh won the series three to nil.
On Saturday Marsa played against the First Royal Horses Artillery C.C from England.
Marsa batted first with Frank Spiteri making a century and Nowell Khosla 98 runs in a total of 275 runs. The visitors made 172 runs falling well short of the total with Jess Bennet being their top scorer with 78 runs.
This week there is a feast of cricket with touring sides playing against each other. Today St. John School play Caterham School. Next weekend Marsa play Harrow School tomorrow and Caterham School on Sunday.
