With reference to your report (TMID, 3 April) concerning the courtesy visit made by Alternattiva Demokratika to Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, it would only be fair for your readers to be informed not only of what the chairperson Dr Harry Vassallo expounded to Bishop Grech, but also the Bishop’s reply. The following is the bishop’s statement made during the same meeting: “Bishop Grech expressed his appreciation for the fact that politicians have so much to offer to society by their political contribution and emphasised the fact that the work of Christian politicians has to be enlightened by the Gospel and the Church teachings.
“Politicians must never forget that at the centre of their attention they should put the person first and for this reason it is imperative that they follow a solid anthropology. The gospel and the Church magisterium offer a sound basis for this anthropology.
“The bishop explained that there could be a common platform where Christian politicians can work together with others in defence of dignity of the human person and the family, at least within the parameters of natural law”.
