Now that the government is carrying out tax reforms, many of us who work as invigilators during the Matsec/University exams wonder if there is going to be a change in our income tax. Many of us are housewives; we do not have a steady part-time job and work just a few hours a year.
We take our work seriously, but 35 per cent, 40 per cent and sometimes even 45 per cent is deducted from our meagre income as it is included with the gross pay of our husbands. This is unfair. Surely a 15 per cent fixed tax is more than enough for any housewife who only does invigilation work. Dolores Cristina should help us in this as she is very fair when it comes to helping others and seeing that justice is done.
We do not have any union to help us so we are always unheard. We hope this appeal in your newspaper will not fall on deaf ears and that things will change for the better.
We believe that Dr Lawrence Gonzi will heed our request as he is a very fair leader.
