Students from various schools, who won prizes in competitions in the Maltese language monthly students’ magazine Saghtar, received their prizes during a prize-giving ceremony held recently at Antonio Galea primary school in Floriana.

The competitions in Saghtar, a magazine published by the Malta Union of Teachers for the past thirty-five years, included competitions of a philatelic nature with each issue, through the co-operation and assistance of the Philatelic Bureau of Maltapost. Prizes for these philatelic competitions were provided by Maltapost.

Successful students received their prizes, which included one-to-three-year subscriptions for first day covers of stamps issued by the Philatelic Bureau. An album with forty first day covers was also drawn by lot among all students taking part in these competitions.

Maltapost chief executive officer Joe Gafà, who presented the philatelic awards to the successful students, referred to the educational element of philately which, he said, was gaining in popularity among the younger generation. Mr Gafà promised Maltapost’s commitment to the philatelic competitions in Saghtar.
