Increasingly within the European Union and in other jurisdictions, investors, especially individual investors, are being regarded as consumers of financial services with all the rights that the consumer has come to accept in a highly developing market.
The Malta and Gozo Shareholders Association (MAGOSA) was set up to protect the investor and help in the realization of the rights pertinent to the nature of a consumer of financial services.
The recent substantial upswing in the local stock market augurs well for the investor/consumer. However, the Malta and Gozo Shareholders Association keeps monitoring developments and expects the regulator and the listing entity to be pro-active in the interest of shareholders so as not to let any interest group gain more favourable terms than the investor when some news is broadcasted by the media.
The education of the investor is of paramount importance and the Malta and Gozo Shareholders Association will be doing its best in this regard, to give information about the various investments on offer but investors as consumers need to use caution so as to avoid being short charged.
Saying this the Malta and Gozo Shareholders Association is interested in collaborating with bona fede stakeholders for win-win results.
It already is in close contact with the shareholders association within and outside the European Union and with an agrouping body of shareholders associations to keep abreast of developments and be able to voice its opinions.
