The third round of the National squash leagues started with a record number of new entries!
Thirteen new players have signed up for the next round taking the total to over 55 players.
The leagues have grown month for month and this latest increase in numbers shows once again the ever growing popularity of the Malta Squash National Leagues.
National coach Paul Lake explained that the fact that players are able to take part in “regular competitive squash matches on a day and time that suites them best, and that players also have “ample time to play their matches”, is one of the reasons the league is so popular.
National team players through to beginners take part, and the competition is as fierce among the ‘beginners’ as among the more ‘experienced’ players. A total of 10 ladies take part in the leagues, the highest number ever, with Malta’s number 1, Johanna Rizzo, leading the way in division 2 and with four ‘newcomers’ entering in at division 9. Malta’s leading junior, Mark Seychell, is also hoping to progress through the leagues and aims to ‘mix it with the best’ by the end of the year.
