Dar Il-Kaptan has been established since 1986 and it is the only respite home for people with disabilities in Malta. Over 350 families utilise its services by leaving their children in the care of the residential home for periods ranging from one day to one or two weeks.
The services of Dar Il-Kaptan cannot be described or understood fully by people who do not have to look after children with special needs, and is of great benefit to those families who need some time to themselves, even if for short periods, when they may feel under a tremendous strain both mentally and physically.
Dar Il-Kaptan is always struggling to keep its operations going, and with a lot of hard work from staff and outsiders, together with fundraising and help from government, the Home is kept very active and gives an excellent service.
Recently a new extension was built, and this year with money received from
L-Istrina, the large garden surrounding the home is being landscaped to make it a beautiful setting for the residents to enjoy.
Basically I am writing this letter to appeal to those who can spare some of their time either throughout the day, evening or weekends to help in the various activities organised by the home.
We are badly in need of people who can give their help so that we can continue to provide the high standard of service required. Volunteers will mainly be utilised for various preparations with regards to fundraising activities.
