Thanks To Mission Fund

Malta Independent Wednesday, 19 April 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

I am a missionary who has been working in India for the past 53 years. I feel most grateful to Mission Fund of Mosta for the generous help that is sent to me from time to time. This helps greatly our young people who come to our technical school to learn a trade that helps them come up in life and find a better place in society.

I am using the contribution that we received recently to provide food and lodging to those who arrive from far away mountain-villages and are so poor that they are unable to get a place where to stay. At present we have 80 of these young boys staying as boarders. Their age vary from 17 to 22.

Most of them are well motivated and take great interest to learn as much as possible. We also do our best to teach them how to fend for their livelihood and not keep depending on others. This is the only way to eradicate poverty in this area.

Many of our trainees have already started working on their own and are doing quite well in society. I also need to collect funds to help other poor lads who show a desire for the priesthood. This is a very noble and essential work for the life of the church here. Thus we try to cater both for church and also for social life.

The assistance of Mission Fund is therefore very useful and I thank them heartily. I exhort the general public to send them donations, used stamps and telecards so that, they on their part can continue this good work of supporting Maltese missionaries scattered all over the world.
