Repeater Frequencies

Malta Independent Saturday, 22 April 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Reference is made to your write-up Smash investing in virtual reality published in (TMID, 19 April).

The Broadcasting Authority would like to clarify, first and foremost, that it has never withdrawn any repeater frequencies from Smash Television as was stated by Smash Television.

In fact, the authority has never assigned any repeater frequencies to Smash television.

What I can, however, confirm is that Smash Television is currently discussing with the Broadcasting Authority and the Malta Communications Authority the possibility of being able to use repeater frequencies.

No decision has yet been taken as Smash Television has not yet provided the necessary technical information from its end in order to enable both authorities in question to consider such a request.

In so far as the World Cup television rights issue is concerned the authority has not taken any further decisions on this issue apart from that communicated to the press on 14 March.
