I frequently question what’s on the environmental agenda of our local councils. Although there are some of them which are sensitive to our environmental problems, there are too many others that do not seem to take the right direction in this regard. It’s as if these mayors and councillors pursue a trend created by one council, all following suit regardless of whether the action taken is environmentally-friendly or not. These are the top three ideas at the moment:

1. Reduce all large trees to lollipops in order not to obstruct the view for residents. After all, do we really need any extra greenery in our villages?

2. Create as many sleeping policemen as possible – thus increasing traffic emissions in our roads five-fold.

3. Declare war on roadside verges during spring; country roads are sprayed with herbicides just before our wild plants start to bloom. The dead plants are left to dry – end of job.

Hey, what is happening? Is there any competent authority that can end such nonsense? Come on, wake up!
