I refer to the article Faceless bureaucrats and hands-on ministers by Mr Leo Brincat, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and IT (TMID, 25 April).

Mr Brincat complained that an “internal leak” report lodged with the corporation was not acted upon.

Mr Brincat’s report was immediately passed onto the WSC’s Internal Detection section.

Unfortunately, this section has been extremely busy lately detecting leaks in the corporation’s own distribution system, because these are considered a priority. As a result the corporation was unable to see to Mr Brincat’s request within a reasonable time.

Admittedly, at the very least, he should have been informed that we couldn’t see to his request quickly – and the corporation apologises for this shortcoming.

However, I feel I must point out that consumers’ internal plumbing systems are their own responsibility – and not the WSC’s. In the interests of water conservation and good client relations we offer a free leak detection service to help clients carry out their own repairs, even though we have no obligation to do so.
