Basketball women’s assistant coach Carlo Farrugia is understood to have resigned from his post – and other activities – earlier this week.

The move came about after a row with coach Prof Santino Coppa at the recent Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Sources close to basketball told The Malta Independent that Farrugia, who had been women’s coach for several years now, also had some arguments with some of the players.

The Sicilian coach is also reported to have been influential in the resignation of Farrugia. In fact, the same sources told this newspaper that Coppa also informed the association that he would quit the post if Farrugia did not resign.
