If like me, your ears are still in a good condition, no doubt you remember how the Nationalist Party promised that work is guaranteed under his government. Actually, the term they used was that work would be “running” after people.

Now, as a hospital worker who is in contact with around a hundred people a day, I’ve heard a few whoppers in my time but this statement surely gets a large medal.

Three years after the PN tried to impress the people, according to recent figures, the number of people registering for work in Malta and Gozo has been at its highest level in the last 10 months especially.

Some time ago, the PN declared that 7,000 people on the unemployment list is an alarming figure.

What words are they going to use now to describe the some 8,000 people who are registering for work? As we celebrate Worker’s’ Day, I have no doubt that Valletta, my hometown, will be filled with throngs of hurt, neglected, unemployed people who have lost their jobs and their dignity through loss of work.

My heart goes out to each and every one of them.
