Caritas Youth volunteers benefiting from training opportunities

Malta Independent Wednesday, 3 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Caritas youth volunteers have been making the most of non-formal international training opportunities offered by the EU Youth Programme, proving that volunteering is not only about giving but also receiving.

Apart from encouraging young people to develop their sense of initiative and to foster a better understanding of the diversity our European culture and shared heritage, these international projects provide the opportunity for youths across Europe and beyond to get to know each other in a multicultural setting and to eventually plan and create projects together.

Through the contacts that Caritas has established over the past few years, the agency’s youth volunteers have become actively engaged in EU Youth Projects both as participants as well as organisers with the aim of introducing a European dimension to their volunteering duties with people in difficulty.

The Caritas Youth Voluntary Service (CYVS) is a volunteering programme for young people aged between 16 and 25 years. Youth volunteers are offered the opportunity to work in various social settings whilst benefiting from extensive opportunities for training and personal development on both a national and an international level. The CYVS was among the first five finalists in Premju Gharfien Zghazagh fis-Socjeta 2005.
