A Libyan man was yesterday fined Lm100 after being found guilty of being in possession of a stolen car stereo and jack. He was cleared of stealing a car.
Emad Othman Salini, 30, pleaded not guilty to stealing a Toyota Starlet worth more than Lm1,000 on 30 September 2005.
He was also accused of stealing a car stereo, spare wheel and jack from the same vehicle, handling stolen property and breaching the conditions of a previous release.
The court, presided over by magistrate Giovanni Grixti, said that the court had no time to waste on the case, pointing out that there was no proof that the accused had stolen the car. The court said the only evidence presented was that the accused was found in possession of a car stereo and jack which meant that he was only guilty of handling stolen property. He was fined Lm100. Police inspector Carlo Ellul prosecuted.
