Crackers: Kitten Boom!

Malta Independent Thursday, 4 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Presently, at the SPCA, one can find lots and lots of cute kittens looking for a good home. January is the cat’s main mating season and as a result, around this time of year the female cats start having their litters of kittens. Some are brought in to the SPCA to be taken care of while others are not so lucky and remain out on the streets trying to cope with the traffic and other dangers as they look for food. As soon as the kittens become independent, the female cats at the SPCA are neutered to save them going through the ordeal of having unwanted kittens again.

Neutering a cat is very important. Although we have many people who take care of stray cats by feeding them regularly, there are still relatively few strays that are taken to a vet to be neutered. Only in this way can we seriously reduce the number of stray and suffering cats on the streets.

The poster shows shocking figures of how unneutered cats can multiply over the years.

Anyone who is interested in adopting either a kitten or a mature cat, please call at the SPCA and have a look for yourself at these cute and playful animals who are so desperate for a loving home. This is just the beginning of kitten time. We need to make space for the rest!
