HSBC Backs launch of new Gozitan products

Malta Independent Thursday, 4 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Savina Creations range will be launched by Magro Brothers at a special event taking place on Saturday at the Cittadella in Victoria.

The Savina Creations range will feature 15 different products designed to cater for all the senses. Apart from several foodstuffs, the range will include a musical CD featuring Maltese and Gozitan artists, a visual presentation on Malta and Gozo, miniature stonework items and scented candles and wines. During the official launch on Saturday, pieces from the musical CD – which have been specially commissioned for the Savina range – will be performed live.

“The Savina Range is a brand new concept for Gozo, promoting the island’s culture and heritage through different products,” said HSBC Gozo area director Stephen Pandolfino. “HSBC is supporting Magro Brothers in this new venture because it firmly believes in the commercial potential of promoting traditional Maltese products. In addition, many small businesses will be involved in supplying items for the Savina Range, creating greater benefits for the Maltese and Gozitan economies.”

The name “Savina” refers to a square in Victoria that used to be the commercial centre of Gozo and was the site of the Magro Brothers’ first office. During this weekend’s official launch of the product range, the streets of Victoria will be decorated from Savina Square up to St Michael’s Bastion, where the concert will take place. This will include classical and traditional Maltese music featuring Nafra and il-Budaj as well as specially composed band marches and choral music. The evening will be rounded off with a spectacular fireworks display.

“The launch of Savina Creations represents the culmination of a lot of hard work. We have created a local product with international ambition. This is a vision which HSBC, as the world’s local bank, understands very well and fully supports. There is still a lot of hard work ahead as we roll out the new products and complete work on the crafts centre next to our factory where many of the products will be manufactured. We are, however, confident of the quality and commercial potential of the range and with HSBC’s support look forward to a successful future,” said Magro Brothers chairman John Magro.

HSBC Malta chief executive officer Shaun Wallis said: “HSBC is delighted to be involved with Magro Brothers in trying to help the promotion of Gozo.”

Gozo Ministry permanent secretary Joe Micallef added: “The Ministry for Gozo is proud to also be supporting the launch of Savina as yet another quality endeavour by Magro Group. It is the ministry’s pleasure to be collaborating also by involving representatives of several other European regions and islands who will be meeting in Gozo this weekend at the Minister for Gozo’s invitation. The representatives, of the Political Bureau of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) will also be attending the official launch on Saturday.”
