Malta Independent Friday, 5 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Employees of the Business Development Division (BDD) of the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC), recently participated in a number of workshops aimed specifically at empowering them with team building skills and tools.

The BDD comprises of four different departments (ICT Unit, Labour Market Information Unit, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, and Human Resources Information Unit).

The main objective of this full-day meeting was to bring all the units together to get to know each other better and exchange information on the various departmental responsibilities. The participants were split into small focus groups made up of individuals coming from the different units to generate creative ideas to enable them to resolve certain issues. A number of icebreakers and energisers were carried out to enhance teamwork and communication amongst the team.

Dr Alexiei Dingli, senior manager of the division said: “To manage our corporation effectively, we need creative employees capable of thinking for themselves and dynamic teams who are flexible enough to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

“It is not a coincidence that one third of the ETC workforce has tertiary level education, but a result of a heavy investment in our employees. For us, success is not measured in monetary terms but is based upon the personal growth of our employees because we believe that this is reflected in the service which they give to our clients.”

Sandra Azzopardi, a certified trainer of the studies of Edward de Bono and an ETC employee led the creative activities for the 23 members of the Business Development Division.
