A huge tent with large concrete blocks to support it that has been put up at the Citadel, in Gozo, is an eyesore and tour operators and tourists alike have complained, Alternattiva Demokratika said yesterday.
Victor Galea, AD Gozo regional committee spokesperson said: “How could such a construction take place even if temporary in a world heritage scheduled area? Who is giving out such permits, if any, and to whom?”
AD said the word ‘temporary’ in Gozo seems to have a different meaning. The same could be said of the ‘temporary’ concrete brick wall surrounding the Ggantija Temples which were built years ago and are still there to this day.
Tour operators said they were baffled how the citadel had been neglected and left to fall to pieces, AD said in a statement.
“It is ironic that Heritage Malta’s Gozo Office is only a few hundred metres away from all this. Is this the way forward for upmarket tourism in Gozo?” Mr Galea asked.
