Enforcement At Mgarr ix-Xini

Malta Independent Sunday, 7 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

A number of limestone blocks that were dumped in a field in Mgarr ix-Xini were recently removed by the owner following immediate action taken by MEPA after a complaint was lodged about illegal dumping there. The site was not far from an old pumping station.

Enforcement officers spent some time searching for the illegality as directions were initially unclear. However, when this was identified, the owner who was on site was asked to remove the stones within a week. This was complied with and the field is now clear.

MEPA also investigated a complaint regarding the road leading to Xatt l-Ahmar in Ghajnsielem. The complaint referred to a gate, which is subject to ECF727/03. An application to sanction the infringement was submitted after the issue of the notice in PA103/04 which was refused by MEPA.

The owner is awaiting a decision from the Planning Appeals board against this refusal, therefore further action by MEPA will be taken according to the final decision taken on the application.
