Music for flute and bassoon by Bozza, Mozart, Heinichen, Fialla, and Bach will feature in the next concert organised by St James Cavalier in aid of the St Catherine of Italy Church restoration fund.
The performance by Robert Calleja (flute) and Ulrike Buhlmann (bassoon) will be held in St Catherine’s Church in Valletta today at 11am.
Robert is a regular performer of chamber music. He is a member of the National Youth orchestra and forms part of the Trio D’Argento together with flutists Rebecca Hall and Fiorella Camilleri, the resident chamber ensemble of the Malta Flute Society. He is also the choir director of The New Choral Singers.
German born Ulrike Buhlmann started bassoon lessons at the Potsdam School of Music. She furthered her studies at the Hochschule fuer Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin with Prof. F. Finsch. Subsequently, Ulrike specialised under the guidance of Prof. K. Thunemann for four years in orchestral performing. She has performed with several orchestras in Germany that include RIAS Jugendorchester, Philharmonie der Nationen, Berliner Kammerphilharmonie.
Ulrike is a very active chamber music performer and forms part of the Trio Rosso, with whom she performed in Malta in 2005, the Berliner Windspiele and Duo Fagoettlich.
This concert is one of a series of concerts organised by St James Cavalier in collaboration with the Malta Flute Society. The society was founded to meet the growing demand for training and performance opportunities for students.
Entrance fee is a donation of Lm2. All proceeds will go to the restoration fund of the church of St Catherine of Italy.
