Malta Independent Monday, 8 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Bank of Valletta and Middlesea Valletta Life are supporting an art exhibition by the “Six Soldier Artists”, also known as “The Fort St Elmo School of Painters” – a name that identifies with the place where five of the six artists commenced their military training.

This is the third triennial exhibition by Brigadier Claude Gaffiero, Brigadier Maurice Calleja, Colonel Ronnie de Renzy Channer, Major Philip Zammit Briffa, Major Martin Scicluna and Captain Eric Gerada Azzopardi. All proceeds from the sale of the works of art will be donated to the Malta Red Cross Society.

The bank’s sponsorship was presented by Joe Zammit, Head of Product and Business Development at Bank of Valletta to Martin Scicluna, coordinator of the exhibition while MSV’s sponsorship was presented by David G. Curmi, general manager at MSV Life.

Mr Zammit and Mr Curmi said: “We are proud to be associated with this unique and different initiative especially since the exhibition is not only promoting local artistic talent but will also help raise funds for a worthy social cause. Visitors to this exhibition will have the opportunity to appreciate the wealth of talent and experience of these Maltese artists and also to support, by purchasing the works of art, the valuable social work of the Malta Red Cross Society.”

Speaking on behalf of the Six Soldier Artists, Martin Scicluna expressed his gratitude to Bank of Valletta for its support and said, “This exhibition brings together six different styles in different media and is a wonderful expression of how six close friends evolve artistically in different ways.”

The exhibition will be opened at the Palazzo Santa Sofia in Mdina by President Emeritus, Dr Censu Tabone on Friday and will, thereafter, be open to the public daily from 10am to 4pm until Monday 15 May.
