Mellieha is a beautiful locality that has characteristics that reflect the identity of the Maltese nation through its voluntary work, President Edward Fenech Adami said yesterday.

Speaking on the last day of a number of activities that marked his official visit there, Dr Fenech Adami said the Mellieha community gave value to all that makes us Maltese.

Over the past days, Dr Fenech Adami has visited the primary school, met representatives of 40 voluntary organisations and visited band clubs and sports clubs. He also visited the local council premises.

After thanking mayor John Buttigieg and other councillors for the hospitality, Dr Fenech Adami praised their commitment to work to improve the situation in the locality.

Yesterday, Dr Fenech Adami visited the Marija Bambina parish, the Mellieha sanctuary, the football nursery, the Mellieha Sports Club, the La Vittoria Philharmonic society, the Imperial Band Club, the Marija Bambina Choral and Orchestral Association and George Fenech, a painter.

He also met youths at the parish centre and presented trophies to winners of the marathon organised by Mellieha Athletics.
