The Vittoria Band Club will commemorate its 100th anniversary with a sculpture and painting exhibition at the 8th September Hall of the said club in Mellieha from Saturday to 28 May.

Activities marking the anniversary opened with a vocal and instrumental programme by the choir and band of La Vittoria. It was held at the Ballroom Hall of the Radisson SAS hotel at Golden Sands under the auspices of President Edward Fenech Adami on 11 March.

During this programme the logo and the motto for these celebrations were inaugurated. The motto chosen is: “Hundred Years Young”. The lyrics for the new hymn for this occasion were also launched. The lyrics were chosen from among a number of other submissions by an independent board made up of Prof. Oliver Friggieri, George Peresso and a team from the club.

The contemporary and abstract sculpture and painting exhibition is a collective effort by the two young artists Antoine Farrugia and Wojtek Brockdorff.

Antoine Farrugia is from Mqabba. He exhibited his works in different towns and villages such as at the Old Hospital, Mqabba in October 2003. In December 2004 he exhibited solo at St James Cavalier, Valletta.

He participated also in another four collective exhibitions at St

Anne Parish Hall, Marsascala, at the Yacht Club, Manoel Island, in Strait Street, Valletta and at Santo Spirto, Rabat during 2005. In this exhibition Antoine Farrugia will be exhibiting original sculptures in franka stone.

Wojtek Brockdorff is 28 years old and this is his first time that he is exhibiting his contemporary and abstract paintings. His work is distinctive, genuine and certainly engaging. Wojtek studied in the United Kingdom as a teenager where he obtained the O-level in art. He is still studying to refine his techniques at the Malta School of Art under the careful guidance of Anton Grech. He will be exhibiting 25 original paintings.

The opening hours are Monday to Saturday 6pm to 9pm and Sunday from 9am to 12pm and from 5pm to 9pm.
