Michael Marshall the policeman! Probably the best epitaph one can compose for Michael, who left us some days ago.

I had the honour to work with Michael for many years in the police force and I can vouch for the fact that he never wanted nor gave any favours to anyone, irrespective of everything.

Michael was staunchly politi-cal but his most wonderful gift was respect for each and every policeman he worked with, irrespective of their politics, in a time when politics could not have been worse.

I was then the president of the Police Association, a body without much clout that acted on behalf of police welfare. With Michael as secretary to the same body, we achieved a lot. After the police force, Michael worked with me in various entities and his uprightness was always paramount.

In my life I have had to count on the loyalty of many people and Michael Marshall was certainly one of them.
