Malta Independent Saturday, 13 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Heritage Malta will be joining the rest of the world in celebrating International Museums Day on 18 May by offering free admission to all its sites in Malta and Gozo, with the exception of the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, to individual juniors and children under the age of 17.

Among Heritage Malta’s most popular sites are Gozo’s Ggantija Temples, the Palace State Rooms, Hagar Qim and Tarxien Temples, St Paul’s Catacombs and the National Museum of Archaeology. All sites, apart from the State Rooms, will open their doors to the public at 9am, with the last admission being at 4.30pm and closing time at 5pm. The Palace State Rooms are open between 10am and 4pm.

On 20 May, Malta will be celebrating another event relating to our national heritage: The Night of Museums. On this evening, Heritage Malta will be offering extended opening hours at the St Paul Catacombs, Ghar Dalam and the Hypogeum.

St Paul’s Catacombs and Ghar Dalam will be open until 7.30pm. Between 5pm and 7.30pm, visitors will pay half the usual admission price and children under the age of 12 will enter free of charge. The Hypogeum will be offering an additional tour at 5pm at the normal admission fee. Pre-booking is required for this tour.
