Heartfelt Thanks

Malta Independent Saturday, 13 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

It’s incredible how, in the year 2006, living in the post-modernity era, there still exist situations where little children are obliged to earn their living sorting rubbish. Before coming to Malta I passed through Lima and went to visit a garbage town. It was incredible. So many children with swollen eyes because of the infections they have, sorting rubbish to earn some money for the day’s living.

This is the situation of most of the “Pueblos Jovenes”, poor villages created around the main cities. Arequipa, the white city in the south of Peru, where the missionary society of Saint Paul has been helping people for the last 30 years, is no different.

Daily we have to face so many poor children and elderly people, not only with nutritional needs but also with health problems.

I am writing to thank all those benefactors who still show great solidarity with the missions today.

I must thank all the Kalkara benefactors who persevere in sending Lm1 a month to help a child with a daily decent meal.

A thank-you must also go to the Centru Animazzjoni Missjunarja for all the donations sent.

I am also writing to especially thank the Mission Fund for the donation of $1,385 that they have recently sent to Peru.

Those who would like to help may contact me on 2180-5532.
