The Sliema Philharmonic Society will be celebrating the day of its foundation on Sunday 28 May, with a programme of activities.

The programme starts with Mass at 11am by the parish priest and society’s spiritual director, Fr George Bugeja OFM at the parish church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sliema with the participation of the Sliema Youth Band.

Under the direction of Mro Sigmund Mifsud, assistant band director, the band will be playing devotional hymns including the popular Domenico Quercetti’s Viva Dejjem.

After Mass, the Mro Cardenio Botti trophy, a work of art in marble by Ronald Pisani, will be presented to the best society’s bandsman. This will be held in the Society’s Cultural Performance Hall, Palazzo Sliema.

Trophies will also be presented to the best students in various categories.

The winners and participants of the project competition “The Life of W.A. Mozart” will also be presented with their awards.
