According to the latest report on the Lisbon Agenda, there are very limited efforts in Malta to create awareness on the importance of entrepreneurship education.
“Changing this scene requires a change of culture, since it is known that in general, the Maltese culture does not provide rigorous entrepreneurship education,” said Daniel Debono, Malta Enterprise Manager – Entrepreneurship and Micros SMEs.
In this regard, Malta Enterprise together with the Investment, Industry and Information Technology Ministry, the Education Ministry and the Competitiveness and Communication Ministry, are developing a project called “Discover Enterprise”. The project aims to tackle entrepreneurship education and trigger a cultural change by sponsoring projects within local educational institutions.
As a start to the project, Ray Muscat, CO Enterprise Support and Innovation at Malta Enterprise, presented Juan Borg Manduca of MCAST ICT with a sponsorship for a full-time lecturer for the next three years.
Mr Debono said that this was one way of how Malta Enterprise was providing this assistance to education institutions in the form of financial and other supporting resources.
He added that the opportunities being offered to all Maltese education institutions vary from sponsorships for entrepreneurship teaching material, Enterprise education related initiatives, and Networking initiatives with local and foreign schools, to the provision of lectures in entrepreneurship studies, visits to local industrial and business institutes, rewarding entrepreneurship, internships, and entrepreneurship activity.
