Malta Independent Tuesday, 16 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A man was accused yesterday of attempting to seriously injure two other men when he allegedly attacked them with a bread knife in Santa Venera on Saturday afternoon following an argument over a parking space.

Alfred Farrugia, 40, from Santa Venera, was charged with attacking brothers Francis and Jason Attard from Santa Venera at around 1.30pm in Triq Abela, and trying to inflict grievous bodily harm.

He was further charged with threatening the two men with a bread knife and with carrying the knife without a licence. He was also charged with damaging property belonging to the two brothers and relapsing.

Before magistrate Jacqueline Padovani, Farrugia pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. His lawyers’ request for bail was refused and he was remanded in custody.

Police inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted while Dr Roberto Montalto and Dr Jose Herrera appeared for the accused.
