The winners of the Fairy Tale painting competition that was held in March have been announced by Continuing Professional Development and Training – Malta (CPDM).
The aim of the competition was to bring youngsters in touch with the depth and meaning behind stories, as well as to offer them the opportunity to discuss art, literature, philosophy and psychology through a fun medium.
This initiative was taken up by CPDM to coincide with a seminar they held earlier last month entitled Interpretation of Fairy Tales.
First prize was awarded to Maria V. Cutajar from St Monica’s School in Birkirkara and the second prize to Kate Zammit Cutajar from San Anton School L-Imselliet.
Book prizes, generously donated by Books Plus of Bisazza Street, Sliema, were awarded to the first and second place winners. All the paintings done by all the children who participated in the competition can be viewed at www.cpdmalta.org
In total, 13 schools from Malta and Gozo took part in this competition, and the paintings were judged by local artist George Preca. George has taken part in various exhibitions, his most recent being at Ir-Razzett Markiz Mallia Tabone in January of this year. His preferred media is pastels and gouache.
CPDM has just hosted Eileen Prendiville, from CTC Ireland, who led a workshop on Creative Therapies with Adults and Adolescents.
CPDM’s next seminar, on Therapeutic work with OCD clients by Professor Paul Salkovskis, will be held in June.
