Your newspaper of 12 May carried two articles that were in contrast to each other.
In the first one, on page five, it was reported that The Central Cigarette Company was planning to close down.
In the second one, on the back page, it was reported that De La Rue would be investing Lm2.2 million in a new factory that will be employing between 60 and 100 new workers.
It goes to prove that Malta is going through a change in its industrial sector. This change is necessary because Malta needs to move on to pastures new. So long as factories that are closing down are being replaced by others, and employees who lose their job find work elsewhere, this should not be a problem for the country.
It is therefore hoped that the government will do its utmost to keep on attracting foreign and local investment opportunities, and at the same time organise re-training schemes, with the help of the Employment and Training Corporation, to enable redundant workers to find a new place of work.
