The St Paul’s Bay local council has condemned the vandalism on the bring-in site in the locality when the skips were thrown into the sea.
In a statement, the council deplored the act which, apart from destroying the skips which cost around Lm1,000, also polluted the sea. The skips, which were close to Patri Felic Sammut Primary School, were vandalised early on Friday morning.
The council said that on the occasion of Earth Day, it donated four sets of skips which will be used to teach schoolchildren how to separate their waste.
Moreover, a Clean Up the Seas event yielded several bags of bottles and other rubbish which was recovered from the seabed between Sirens and Gillieru.
The council urged St Paul’s Bay residents to continue using bring-in sites properly by separating their waste in the best interests of the environment.
