Malta Independent Wednesday, 17 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Poezijaplus’ next event is on Monday at 7.30pm and will be dedicated to Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code.

Poezijaplus shall discuss the novel and try to understand what’s behind Brown’s wild success. The discussion will also focus on the role of censorship in a democratic country like Malta.

Poezijaplus is presenting an interesting line-up.

Tony Cassar Darrien shall speak about famous books that were victims of censorship. Trevor Zahra will share his views on Dan Brown.

Dr Chris Gruppetta will speak about censorship.

Dr Carmel Cassar shall re-open Mattew Falzun’s case of banned books. Mario A. Azzopardi shall speak about censorship in the cinema and Oliver Mallia, the Films Commissioner from the Malta Film Commission, shall speak about the facilities Malta offered to Sony to do the film.

Journalist Karl Schembri shall speak about censorship and the press.

This promises to be an enchanting evening. The event is not only for those who already read the book but also for those who didn’t read a line: surely their interest will be aroused.

No tickets or bookings are required. Free drinks will be served.

The group invites the general public to cordially visit its new website www.malta poetry.com.
