Malta Independent Wednesday, 17 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The MTA has started preparatory work to create a 2,000 square metre sandy perched beach in Dawret il-Gzejjer in Bugibba.

The work includes the construction of structures for sand containment, storm water and drainage management works, the construction of a new staircase, an 80 metre-long ramp, a beach management room, lifeguard lookout post and public toilet facilities.

This is the first project of its kind in Malta.

The sand, which will be used for the beach and has been manufactured in Jordan, will be shipped to Malta in mid-June.

The project is being coordinated by the Malta Tourism Authority and Alfred Grech and Associates who are the architects and project managers entrusted with the work.
