Pushing Education

Malta Independent Wednesday, 17 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

In your leader Pushing education (TMID, 12 May), you highlighted the importance that parents guide their children towards careers that are needed in Malta.

Agreed.

But I believe that this should be done in our schools too. Government, Church and private schools should be the first to promote careers that are necessary to the country’s development.

Unfortunately, so far it seems that there is a lack of personnel in the sectors of industry where investment seems to be flowing in. This should not be the case.

We all know that in five, 10 years’ time Malta will be a different place to live in with a different industrial base. So we should start planning for this now, not in five years’ time.

I think that schools play an important part in the future of our country.

And they should be the first to guide their students towards areas where they, once grown up, will be needed.
