As during the next few years the number of people over 65 years will be about 18 per cent of the 400,000 population in the Maltese Islands, this means that there will be 70,000 people of elderly age.

It is therefore assumed that at least a few hundred people would need to be taken care of in “a home” as they would not be able to stay alone.

Boffa Hospital, which will soon be emptied from existing patients, could easily be adopted as “a home” on payment for the elderly of Floriana and Valletta. Their relatives living outside the Floriana and Valletta area could visit them by using only one bus. Moreover, adapting Boffa Hospital would cost very much less than building a new home.

I invite the Floriana local council to collect signatures and persuade the government to utilise Boffa Hospital for the ever growing elderly population.
