This year’s Malta Youth Open, held at the Eden SuperBowl at St Julian’s, produced one of the most gripping final matches ever witnessed with both categories being won by Maltese bowlers. Wilkinson Sword-sponsored Mauro Anastasi won both the Under 24 category in the singles tournament and the Masters event

Anastasi’s team Diabolic formed by Justin Caruana Scicluna and himself, placed second in the Doubles Event.

The tournament was open to all tenpin bowlers aged 24 years or less, and apart from the 20-strong field of Maltese talent, the SuperBowl also hosted about 12 young athletes from various European countries.

All entrants took part in both singles and doubles events in their respective categories. The combined individual performances from the doubles and singles then decided the ‘Masters’ event, where the top six bowlers in each category battled it out to decide the two Malta Youth Open Champions from the under-18 and under-24 sections.

After this event, the top three continued to the next level, the stepladder. This is a one-on-one game were the player in the third place, Dean Micallef, played against the player in the second place, Mauro Anastasi and the winner against Matthew Caruana. Mauro Anastasi was given the 3rd place in the stepladder event.

The climax of this event was the Challenge Cup which featured the two Champs, Dean Micallef and Justin Caruana Scicluna, going head-to-head to decide the overall winner of the Globalair Malta Youth Championships.

This event was made possible with the support of sponsors Globalair Travel Ltd and the Eden Leisure Group.
