Today, all those who wish to spend a fun day with their families are invited to join the activities being held to celebrate UNESCO's International Day of Families. The Vodafone Malta Foundation Family Day, taking place at Ghadira Bay, will kick off at 10am.
Apart from providing a fun packed day for all, this event will raise funds for Caritas, the Eden Foundation and Malta's first electronic medical journal, co-ordinated by Dr Victor Grech, a leading paediatric cardiologist.
The main activities will be held on ground between the two bays. A St John's Ambulance First Aid Team will be on hand throughout the day. There are loads of prizes to be won including weekend breaks, mobile phones, dinners, toys and much more. And of course, there will be food and drink stalls.
The programme starts at 10am with the Rugby Mini Gators Training. Between 12pm and 3pm, there will be a Penalty Shootout featuring Malta's top goalkeepers including Sean Sullivan, Mario Muscat, Simon Agius, Jason Cordina and Ernest Barry. The public is encouraged to come along, pit their skills and win fantastic prizes if they score three goals on three tries.
Between 12pm and 4pm, there will also be tug of war competitions. All those who ever wished to test their strength against some of Malta’s most robust guys may do so by gathering some of their friends and do battle against the Alligators Rugby Team. The Tug of War winning team will win a weekend or two days stay in Gozo from Gozo Farmhouses Ltd.
At 2pm, there will be the highlight of the event when Daniel Abela will attempt to cross the 1.2 kilometre wide Ghadira Bay underwater and back weighed down by some 25 kgs. He will be assisted by the D.A.R.T. Volunteers. Thanks to the Malta Sports Council, Daniel was able to proceed with his training in the dive pool at Tal-Qroqq.
Between 2pm and 3pm, the Armed Forces of Malta will give an Air to Sea Rescue demonstration. Throughout the afternoon, the Malta Police Force will give a Horse Show and at 4pm, they will give a Police Dog Show. Between 3 and 5pm, there will be a beach soccer tournament. There will also be a Bouncy Castle and pony rides for kids.
All those present will also have the opportunity to meet and take a photo with their favourite contestants from popular local reality TV show, L-Ispjun, who will be participating in the Family Day.
The Vodafone Malta Foundation Family Day comes to an end at 5pm when Mgr Victor Grech will celebrate Mass.
