The government has announced that it will be issuing an international call for tenders for the installation of an offshore wind farm.

Better late than never, one should say. A lot of time has been wasted in this regard when Malta could have easily resorted to such means of energy a long time ago.

But still, the ball is now rolling.

I hope that the proposals will not fall into the trap of bureaucracy and that the subject is tackled head on by the government.

Many countries have invested in wind energy as alternative sources of power and the results have been good. It is now up to us to follow in their footsteps.

With the rising cost of oil it is imperative that alternative sources of energy are made use of. The country – and its people – could save a lot of money.
