As you rightly point out in your editorial Credibility of sport, (TMID, 16 May), the credibility of sport has been dented.
What is happening in Italian football these days should make us stop and wonder whether we should continue giving support to our favourite teams, and by this I do not only mean Italian football teams, but sport in general.
It is sad that we have arrived at this point. What is perhaps worse is that it had to be such a famous club, Juventus, that is involved in such a delicate moment in its history. I do hope that the Italian authorities will take all the steps necessary if Juventus are found guilty, and give them a lesson that will serve as a deterrent to others.
Sport is a means of entertainment and it should remain so. Otherwise, we run the risk that people lose interest.
