Football On TV

Malta Independent Tuesday, 23 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

Melita Cable TV has been ordered to “stop exercising any rights over transmission from Italian television stations that can be freely accessed by any local person with an appropriate television aerial with immediate effect” (TMID, 20 May).

The decision was taken by the Commission for Fair Trading, and I must say that I agree with the stand taken.

What I cannot understand is that it took the commission so long to make up its mind, and in the process football followers were deprived from watching football games when now it transpires that they had every right to watch them on their screens.

I believe that such important decisions should not take so long to be taken. The commission said that the ruling is valid for three months. Let us hope that a final decision will be taken before the next football season starts.
