Following a number of months of intensive investigations, the police solved a number of cases of thefts that took place in recent months.
In a statement, the police said four men have been arrested and are assisting the police in their investigations.
The police said that in some of these cases of theft, cars were being used to break into shops from where items such as plasma TVs and LCD screens were stolen.
During their investigations, the police were informed that a number of items stolen from these establishments were being sold. The police began to investigate a 29-year-old man from Paola and a 23-year-old man from Birzebbuga in connection with the sale of these stolen items.
Eventually, the investigations led to the arrest of another two men – a 26-year-old man from Birzebbuga and a 23-year-old man from Hamrun.
The intensive investigations led the police to solve the theft of four cars which were being used by the robbers to gain entry into the shops as well as thefts from a clothes shop in San Gwann, the theft of several cars from the KIA showroom in Qormi and thefts from a paint shop in Sliema, from a foreign exchange bureau in Sliema, from a shop in Mosta and from shops selling domestic appliances in Qormi and Zebbug.
Apart from the four men who have already been arrested, the police are holding several other people to assist them in these investigations. A number of people are expected to be charged in court in the coming days, the police said.
