Malta And France

Malta Independent Wednesday, 24 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Prime Minister has just spent two days in France where he met a number of businessmen in order to promote Malta as the ideal base for their investment.

In your leader entitled France and Malta (TMID, 19 May), you rightly pointed out that “not all companies present in meetings with Dr Gonzi will decide to invest in Malta”.

I would say that only a small fraction of them will eventually turn up. But this small fraction could be enough to push Malta’s economy forward and create jobs. We are a small nation, and every little helps.

I would also suggest that the government should consider organising similar trips to other countries, that would likewise help to bring in more foreign investment to Malta. There are many other European countries where entrepreneurs are looking to expand their business.

Malta’s membership of the European Union will certainly help in this regard.
