The story reported last Wednesday, Falling Sales at Gozo Channel, was based on an incorrect reading of the figures provided to the House of Representatives since they compared full year’s figures with this year’s five months’ figures.
A more correct comparison can thus be only made with the last full year’s figures.
According to this comparison, Gozo Channel saw its sales of tickets to Gozo residents rise from 290,000 in 1998-99 to 421,000 in 2004-2005; its sales of tickets for car and passenger resident in Gozo rise from 126,000 in 1998-99 to 212,000 in 2004-2005; and its sales of tickets to Gozo motorcycle riders from 2,600 in 1999-2000 to 2,800.
As for sales to people resident in Malta, these decreased slightly from 866,849 in 1999-2000 to 866,359; while cars with passenger increased from 177,000 to 191,000 and motor cycle sales decreased from 3,651 to 2,182.
