Pizza Cracks World Cup code

Malta Independent Sunday, 28 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

As the hype surrounding the release of the The Da Vinci Code movie increases, the Australian Fat Pizza crew (which includes people of Maltese origin) thought it was time to crack a code of their own.

With the start of the World Cup looming, Fat Pizza’s Pauly Falzoni and his sidekicks travel the globe to prove the sporting event is a sham.

Pauly Falzoni, the Fat Pizza character played by Paul Fenech, has called his band of brothers together to create the three-part series Pizza: The Da Vinci Cup, which will uncover the secret of football’s greatest competition.

Travelling from the south of France to Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Berlin and Malta, the masters of comedy go in search of the secret society that has been controlling World Cup games for over 50 years.

“I wanted to expose the real side,” said Fenech, creator and star of the SBS comedy series.

Breaking all the rules, the gang captured footage of the world-famous painting, the Mona Lisa, in the Louvre in Paris.

Although there were security guards prowling around, the Pizza crew still managed to get away with the prized footage.

Viewers will find out how an Aramaic prophet knew the results before the World Cup was invented, how Nostradamus chronicled these results in mediaeval tests and how Leonardo Da Vinci hid the results of all the games in the Mona Lisa.

Shot in three episodes, The Da Vinci Cup, which premiered on SBS last Monday, busts the conspiracy to reveal the hilarious truth.

The other guys act in re-creations similar to those in documentaries, like for example, Habib plays Leo Da Vinci and Rocky plays a knight from the crusading days. Bobo plays the Pope. He even shaved his goatee to be more historically accurate.

Over a three-month stretch, the crew visited France, Brazil, Germany and Malta to prove the World Cup, which kicks off on 9 June, is a scam “that started in Jesus’ time and has involved Nostradamus, George Bush, Bill Gates and several major corporations”.

Fat Pizza will also break the record for the world’s most travelled pizza in 2007.

“We took one pizza from Australia to Thailand, Amsterdam, India, Brazil, Malta and back to Uluru,” he said.

“Let me tell you it’s not easy getting a helicopter to land on Uluru but we did it.”
