Chief Justice In Germany

Malta Independent Tuesday, 30 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Chief Justice Vincent De Gaetano is in Leipzig, Germany, where he is attending the annual general assembly of the Association of the Councils of State and Supreme Administrative Jurisdictions of the European Union, as well as the 20th Colloquium organised by the said Association.

Malta is represented on the Association by the Court of Appeal as the highest court in Malta in administrative law matters.

Both the general assembly and the Colloquium are being hosted by the Federal Administrative Court of Germany.

The Colloquium, which is financially supported by the European Union, will be discussing a report by Professor Dr Rudiger Rubel, a judge on the Federal Administrative Court of Germany, on “National Road Planning and European Environmental Legislation”.

Earlier this year Judicial Assistant Dr Marse-Ann Farrugia participated in the preparatory work leading up to the report.

Among the topics for discussion during the general assembly is the extension of the Association’s “Information Netwok” on European Community Law.

Earlier this month a meeting was held by the Association in Trier, Germany, to discuss the “Information Network”.

The meeting was attended by Mr Justice David Scicluna and Judicial Assistant Dr Anthony Ellul.

During the absence of the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Joseph David Camilleri is Acting Chief Justice.
