Xemxija Promenade

Malta Independent Wednesday, 31 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I am very pleased to see that work to upgrade the Xemxija promenade is expected to be completed in the coming days, according to Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit (TMID, 27 May)

Minister Zammit commented that “this project highlighted the way the government and local councils can work together in the best interest of their locality” and that designs were drawn up by the local council. Also, that “the project designs gave due consideration to the safety of pedestrians and access for the disabled and a number of pelican lights have been also installed”.

This is all well and good. However, we are in the tourist season and it is very detrimental for tourists to come to Malta for a nice holiday “to get away from it all”, to have to see, hear and most of all stumble around this kind of work that should have been completed long before the end of this particular month.

It is not only the council of St Paul’s Bay that is paying a high price. It is also Malta as a whole that will suffer, as most tourists will not return following such an experience.
