FISEC Games: Intensive Training for the Maltese athletes

The Maltese athletes taking part in this year’s edition of the FISEC games are having regular and consistent training thanks to their respective coaches. The FISEC games will be held between 21and 25 July in Kecskemet, Hungary.

Malta will be taking part in seven sporting disciplines – FUTSAL, Basketball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Swimming, Athletics and Handball.

Recently the Malta FISEC Council, under the leadership of its chairman, Brother Martin Borg fsc, organised a meeting for all coaches within the committee in order to discuss the training of the Maltese athletes and to give the necessary information regarding the Hungary games.

The FUTSAL players are being prepared by Michael Molzahn and Kevin Mamo, David Pace is in charge of the table-tennis players, Gail Rizzo is coaching the swimmers, Ralph Mifsud and physiotherapist Leandros Calleja are preparing the children taking part in the athletics competitions.

Milos Stanisavljevic and Matthew Mamo are in charge of the handball team with Tony Cilia Pisani co-ordinating the training of the tennis players. The training of the Maltese female basketball team is being coordinated by the technical team within the Malta Basketball Association.

In his introductory speech, Malta FISEC Council chairman, Brother Martin Borg spoke about the value and aims of the FISEC games and said that today, the FISEC games have become part of the Maltese sporting calendar. He thanked all the coaches for their hard work and dedication and confirmed that even this year, the Maltese committee will be subsidising the participation of all Maltese athletes.

“I also would like to thank all the local officials within the various sporting associations for their constant help and support. This cooperation between my committee and the officials of different associations is certainly the key to the success of the Maltese participation in the FISEC games every year,” concluded Brother Borg.

Carmen Carabott, FISEC Malta General Secretary, gave details about the accommodation of the athletes in Kecskemet. Later on David Azzopardi, who is the Technical Director of the committee, discussed the training of the athletes and the calendar of events in Hungary with the coaches.

Present for this meeting were also Gianfranco Selvaggi who is the FISEC International General Secretary, Louis Borg the FISEC International Vice President and Julie Bajada who is the General Secretary of the committee CIRPP within the same FISEC international committee.
