Two popular Danish singers, one of whom is also a well-known actress, were in Malta recently to participate in the Miss Italia Nel Mondo – Malta gala evening held at the Westin Dragonara Resort.
Singers Anita Lerche and Gry Bay travelled to Malta on the initiative of an informal group which is working to forge closer links between Malta and Denmark particularly in the cultural field.
This group was set up by former Maltasong chairman Charlo’ Bonnici and former Danish Head of Delegation for Eurovision Morten Carlsson. Bonnici and Carlsson who have been joined by Juri, Morten’s son, have been working on this initiative as far back as 2001. Together they have managed to stage a very successful show with all the participants of a Danish TV show Stars for a Night in 2003 and also to promote local singers in Denmark.
Anita has been singing since the age of seven. Her repertoire includes jazz, pop and many classical compositions. She also learnt acting so as to perform her songs with deeper knowledge of the story. She is a regular guest singer on television in Denmark and has recently released a solo music album in Denmark I Love A Piano.
Gry Bay got her breakthrough co-starring in Dr Monika Lindt – Kinderärztin, Geliebte, Mutter (1997–1998), a German TV-series which was aired prime time on RTL. The series led to another costarring role in the film Hosenflattern aka Where Did You Last See Your Trousers? (1998), made for cable TV.
In 1999 Gry showed her versatile talent by leaping to the rescue and taking over the lead role as Sally in Me And My Girl at the Nøoeørrebros Teater without rehearsals for three nights running when the original actress fell ill. The following year, also at Noeørrebros Teater, she played the part of Brooke Ashton in Michael Frayn's acclaimed comedy Noises Off.
The two Danish singers’ visit was supported by Eurotours and Mellieha Holiday Complex (The Danish Village).
